1) cannot have weapon out, you would need to switch to an item like you switch to a repair tool or nano hive. 2) only run with a limited number, similar as to how you an only have 2 nano hives or 2 drop uplinks 3) only lasts for about 15 seconds each use 4) cannot hack or perform functions 5) high PG and CPU usage I'm cool with anything except a time or activation limit. The other handicaps are more than enough. I would probably be ok with th cloak working similarly to stamina, you use it it goes down and when you are not using it, it builds back up ( so maybe get rid of point #3). See, I really don't see a reason why doing it EVE style wouldn't work. The person obviously wouldn't be completely invisible, since it is a camouflage system and not a light-bending system, but the inability to attack anyone while cloaked, combined with possibly enacting a speed penalty while using it seems like more than enough. In EVE a cloak takes the ship out of normal space and it can't be seen. It is not a trick in the game, your ships is actually not there until you get to close to something or decloak. It is not camouflage but a different state of being on the server. That's why there is such a hard time tweaking the cloak system, when a player moves through a warp gate they are in a different kind of space on the server and the ship comes out of the jump gate cloaked. A jump gate cloak and a cloaking device use the same mechanism to move the player out of space. Lastly, movement is only hindered about 5% on higher tier cloaks and special black ops ships have bonuses for cloaks.
i think most people posting here are worried about abuse of cloaking. It is a worrisome thing to include, until we see exactly how CCP will handle it. Currently (hopefully next build will see it fixed somewhat) hit detection is an issue, we now have scout suits running around abusing this, and cloaking will be open to similar abuses.
I would love to see proper stealth included into the game, but i think that given that DUST is a FPs and not a space (echo: space space space space....) game, that cloaking gear should take into account the Human scale of the suit, as opposed to the large structural scale of EVE. Given this as a starting point, its feasible to say that operating human scale cloaking precludes running what would otherwise be a full fitting.
